Fendi Takes Its Featherlike Fur Innovation To The Next Level

“Fur is Fendi and Fendi is fur,” Karl Lagerfeld, the late creative director of the Roman fashion house, once declared.

Indeed, Fendi is a whiz with the material and it still wows with cool feats from tirelessly innovating and redefining modern furs for nearly 90 years. Just recently, the in-house fur atelier unlocked another breakthrough.

In the women’s fur collection for Autumn/Winter 2023, artisans applied the Featherlike technique of creating incredibly lightweight pieces on precious sable fur for the first time. The groundbreaking Featherlike range has long made it possible to wear luxurious furs all year long, even in warmer climates.

The trick is to cut big pieces of fur before sewing these thin strips onto a lightweight base of silk, cleverly eliminating the need for heavy linings. Fendi says that a long fur coat weighs as little as a cashmere sweater – a truly impressive feat – which makes it travel-ready without the bulk.

With such a level of fabric innovation and craftsmanship displayed, it will be exciting to see how Fendi’s other icons and house codes evolve as well in the years to come.
