Did Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez call each other to coordinate their looks before hitting the town on December 12? I couldn’t say for sure, but it doesn’t seem out of the question. If they did, it doesn’t look like Miles Teller, who joined the two besties on their night out, got the trench-coat-and-combat-boots memo.

Photos show Gomez and Swift both in belted, buttoned coats, though Gomez’s looks a little more like a standard black wool winter coat. Swift switched it up with a long leather trench coat in a classic khaki color. Gomez’s chunky black ankle boots are of the cozy variety, while Swift’s, with their high heel and oversized gold buckle detail, are more, as she might say, “metal as hell.”
