Zooey Deschanel in her blue period.

Zooey Deschanel was giving Violet Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in monochromatic blue on the final day of Haute Couture Week in Paris, France. The New Girl star flew in for the Patou show on January 25 sporting slightly different versions of the shade from head to toe, starting with a chunky cobalt blue crewneck sweater and a lighter blue tweed miniskirt. Underneath the skirt she slipped on a pair of sheer royal blue tights, deviating from the red tight trend gaining traction on TikTok. She finished the look with a pair of blue patent leather ankle-strap heels and a cerulean shoulder bag with gold hardware.

Deschanel stayed true to her signature retro-glam at the runway show, swiping on a blue-based red lipstick for maximum contrast and curling her brunette locks into a Brigitte Bardot-inspired ’60s half-up half-down hairstyle.

Zooey Deschanel was once regarded as the patron saint of twee—an aesthetic that’s come back into fashion on the heels of the indie sleaze renaissance. The Couture Week appearance seemingly marked her return to the spotlight following her engagement to Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott in August. Scott popped the question at a castle during a family summer vacation to Scotland and presented her with “a wildflower-inspired ring set” studded with diamonds and pink and purple sapphires.

“When we first started dating, Zooey posted a picture of us together,” Scott added in a People cover story. “It might’ve been the very first time we ever posted anything on social media. And I remember I looked at it and I saw the first comment right below was, ‘Why the hell is she with a Property Brother?!’ I was like, ‘Excuse me—rude!’”
