Carey Mulligan Wore Dior Haute Couture To The 2024 BAFTAs

Carey Mulligan was nominated in the Best Actress category for ‘Maestro’ at the 2024 BAFTAs on Sunday.

The actress wore a black silk and velvet bustier Dior Haute Couture gown which her stylist Andrew Mukamal shared was inspired by the ‘Autriche’ gown originally created for the Fall 1951 Haute Couture collection.

The last time Dior recreated a classic it ended up being your favourite look of the year.

I would say that this gown – which is a veritable work of art drawing inspiration from 19th century-style corsetry – could only have been worn by Carey, as she continues her commitment to 1950s glamour this awards season which she first displayed at the Golden Globe Awards.

The actress wore a rare Bulgari necklace, and an even rarer rouge lip colour.

I’m going to have a tough time selecting a favourite from Carey this season, and this is coming from someone who usually isn’t a fan of black gowns on the red carpet.

Recency bias is telling this is her best, but I’m likely to change my mind when they are all lined up after the Oscars.
