Surfergirl chic meets pirate cool

Here’s some non-fashion week news! Margot Robbie wears Westwood again!

Following the custom interpretation of “Enchanted Evening” Barbie that Andreas Kronthaler’s atelier whipped up for the actor in July, the designer invited Barbie herself into the archives to pick a look worthy of…wait for it…Surfers Paradise. While much will be made of the shimmering comparisons between Margot Robbie’s throwback look and disco ball Barbie, surely we can put the endless bubblegum doll comparisons to bed. For Andrew Mukamal’s sanity at least.

We imagine the stylist, who has fashioned a book of all his Barbie movie references, was simply captivated by Westwood’s Tied to the Mast ’98 edit, and the direct references it made to the provocateur of punk’s legendary debut Pirate presentation in 1981—which Westwood later said was the real beginning of her career as a fashion designer.
