The British heritage brand’s Spring 2024 collection, designed by Daniel Lee, evokes the great outdoors

Burberry is glamping inside the South Coast Plaza through March 14. The British fashion house helmed by Daniel Lee has devised an immersive Costa Mesa pop-up painted in the brand’s Knight Blue hue with fabric walls evoking a tent holding a curated selection of Spring 2024 designs. Trench coats — a seasonal staple, particularly in a year of El Niño–driven showers — headline the offering inspired by the house’s history of innovation as the outfitter of explorers and maker of clothing meant to protect wearers from the elements.

The ephemeral space’s tentlike interiors are spread with camping-style furniture conjuring the great outdoors and divided into several areas stocking various portions of the new collection. Naturally, the trench, invented more than 100 years ago, is prominent in this outside-in display, where heritage styles meet new versions sporting reimagined seasonal checks and prints. The house’s Equestrian Knight Design makes an appearance on leather puffer coats, which are woven into the backs of garments or inside hems. New takes on other British motifs, including new iterations of the check alongside the blooming rose, inspired the house’s Peg bags, Rose clutches, and ready-to-wear staples. Lee is reworking the line’s wardrobe archetypes, cutting silhouettes closer to the body and creating hourglass waists. Chic zips reference archival flying suits, and prints can be worn head to toe with patterned hats, jackets, tights, and shoes. Lee’s crash course in outfitting for the elements has arrived just on time. 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa, South Coast Plaza, 714-556-8110; burberry.com.
