There are bobs and then there are old money bobs—the hairstyle that’s set to become the summer’s most requested look. Think swooshy, bouncy, healthy hair that looks ultra-polished and expensive. If it were an outfit, it would sit firmly in the Loro Piana cashmere-centric quiet luxury camp.

“Old money bobs are luxurious–blow dried and turned under at the ends,” Nicola Clarke says of the trend. If you already have a bob, achieving this specific look is all in the blow dry, “which must be bouncy”, notes Clarke. “To make it extra bouncy, spray the hair with a blow dry lotion or spray while damp, and then at the root use a product like Sam McKnight Cool Girl Superlift. That will give it the lift you need at the root along with giving the style some hold.”

From Jourdan Dunn to Sydney Sweeney at the Oscars, the stars have been busy giving the trending hair length a fresh look, proving once again the versatility of the bob cut. To create the distinctive “old money” effect, invest in a large barrel brush or styling tong (we love the Moroccanoil 45mm round brush or Dyson’s 40mm Airwrap barrel attachment), and guide the ends of your hair around the brush or barrel with heat to create the required tuck. Use the brush to lift roots and set with spray for all day bounce.
