Colman Domingo Wore Willy Chavarria To The 2024 Met Gala

I was surprised to learn that the 2024 Met Gala was Colman Domingo’s debut.

This man has been killing it on the red carpet since 2020 (and probably before), and it’s taken Anna Wintour four years to invite – who I regard – the best dressed man in Hollywood?

Better late than never, I guess.

And what a stunning debut it was, yet learning about the inspiration made me emotional.

Willy Chavarria is known for his voluminous tailoring, so adding a cape to Colman’s jacket gave his look a point of difference compared to the looks worn by other men, but this detail had a greater significance, as it was in honour of two amazing men who changed the fashion game: the late Chadwick Boseman and André Leon Talley.

On the red carpet Coleman said, “I wanted to honor these brothers who were here before me. They both wore capes when they were at the Met.”

Coleman was referencing Chadwick’s 2018 Atelier Versace ‘Heavenly Bodies’ Met Gala look, which feels so poignant in this moment.

Not forgetting the ‘Garden of Time’ theme, we have an oversized black corsage and a bouquet of lilies which amplified the romantic air.

Considering Chris Hemsworth’s low effort, we should start campaigning for Colman Domingo to be the co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala.

Christian Louboutin Yoz The Lips black velvet heeled boot with gold chain, an IWC timepiece and David Yurman jewels completed his look.
