Jessica Biel has had a busy month! Less than a week after releasing her already best-selling children’s book about menstruation, A Kids Book About Periods, the actor turned author surprised fans with yet another shocking hair transformation: a super-short blunt bob.
Biel unveiled her fresh chop with a before-and-after Instagram reel and TikTok, in which she jokingly tugged on her pigtails until they “fell off.” “Brought back the f*ck ass Bob 💇🏻♀️,” she captioned the clip, making an extremely niche and online reference to Kat from Euphoria’s haircut.
The 42-year-old then shared another trending before-and-after TikTok transition, using the notorious “Why are you so obsessed with me?” audio from (the original) Mean Girls. Obviously, I’m excited about Biel’s new hair. But what I really want to know is who’s running Jessica Biel’s social accounts. Alright, back to Biel’s bob. Her latest look comes just nine days after debuting platinum blonde hair, which is exciting in itself. But now that the 7th Heaven star is back to her usual shade of “bronde,” it’s only natural that she joined fellow A-listers Gigi Hadid and Elle Fanning in opting for a summer-weather-friendly princess bob cut. Great minds!
Biel’s princess cut is courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Anh Co Tran, who’s also known for cutting and styling Selena Gomez’s hair. As for why the look is trending for summer 2024?
Well, “2024 is the year of the bob,” Nicola Wood, leading hair specialist and founder of Hair Made Easi, says of the chop—and based on how many other celebs have debuted one as of late, she’s certainly not wrong. “Previous years have been dominated by big, bouncy blowouts and lengthy styles, but this year has seen the return of the short cuts.”

Plus, ’90s-inspired hairstyles are having a moment, Wood says: “Short, glossy, blunt bobs were really popular in the ’90s, and so it’s no surprise to see this making a comeback, this time with the princess bob.”
Another perk? According to Wood, the princess bob suits every face shape, depending on the length you choose. “It’s a great look that can be adopted by most,” she says. “It’s a very mature, classy style that still offers a bit of edge.”

The haircut can work with all hair types too. “Those with thinner hair, you’ll be able to stick to one length for your bob as it will sit neatly in the perfect shape around your face; however, if your hair is thicker, you may want to add layers to remove some weight,” says Wood.
“A thick-haired bob can sometimes look a bit too bulky if not cut correctly, so don’t be afraid to add layers,” Wood says. “Invisible layers are a popular choice with this style.”
