The V&A Museum is making history with its first-ever retrospective on a model, and who better to be its subject than the iconic Naomi Campbell?
The exhibition, titled ‘NAOMI: In Fashion,’ spans four decades of her influential career and will run from June 22, 2024, to April 6, 2025, in London.
This grand celebration of Naomi’s impact on fashion, supported by BOSS, was kicked off in style at the V&A Summer Party on Wednesday evening.
However, as much as I admire Naomi, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by her look.
When I learned that her BOSS halter dress was a custom design, I was shocked, because it’s hard to believe, isn’t it?
The dress looked ill-fitting and lackluster, far below the standard one would expect for someone of Naomi’s stature.
Every time I see a “custom” design that fails to impress, I can’t help but wonder about the process behind it. Was there even a fitting for this dress?
Naomi is undoubtedly a busy woman, but her renowned stylist, Law Roach, is known for his meticulous attention to detail. Surely, he could have prevented the awkwardly protruding sides of the dress.
And then there was the matter of her jewelry. Naomi adorned herself with two High Jewelry Serpenti necklaces by Bulgari. Were two necessary? The excessive accessorizing seemed to detract from her natural elegance rather than enhance it in my opinion.
In the comments, some of you have noted that Law Roach seems to rely heavily on a specific silhouette, often seen on Zendaya, and it appears he is applying the same template to Naomi.
While I hold Law’s work in high regard, this look was uninspired and disappointing from every angle.
The saving grace was Naomi’s radiant beauty. From the neck up, she was as breathtaking as ever, a reminder of why she remains a fashion icon. But overall, this outfit did not do justice to the legacy being celebrated at the V&A.
