By now, you’ve probably noticed things look a little different around here.

For the first half of 2024, our team wasn’t just creating free resources for the blog, releasing shoppable outfit ideas each month in the Wardrobe Report, or supporting guys 1-on-1 in their style journeys with Wardrobe Reboot virtual styling sessions — we’ve also been redesigning the website.

The result? A faster, easier to navigate experience for you.

If you’re here, you know that the Look Good, Feel Good connection is real. And towards the end of last year, we realized that we weren’t putting our best foot forward with the online experience. The Style Girlfriend website needed a good ol’ fashioned makeover.

With one goal in mind — to make it easier than ever for you to navigate — we rebuilt the site, basically from scratch. The result? A cleaner, more streamlined experience, from reading the blog, to shopping Team SG’s latest finds, to investing in your styling journey with a paid product or premium experience.

The new Style Girlfriend is faster than ever before, with images loading lightning quick, even when ads also appear on a page.

And while we’re on the subject: I won’t apologize for adding display advertising back onto the site — that was a business decision that has helped keep the lights on after changes to Google’s algorithm severely impacted independent publishers like SG — but I do want you to know that we’ve heard your feedback and have worked hard to find a happy medium with the new layout.

Here’s a hit list of what to expect when exploring the new Style Girlfriend:

New fonts and a slightly tweaked color palette for improved accessibility

It’s important to us that the site is legible for everyone, on every device. To that end, we’ve adapted the blue, red, and pink color scheme ever so slightly (you probably won’t even notice) to ensure it’s easy to scan for everyone.

We’ve also adopted a new typography in DM Sans that I like to think of as the Ryan Reynolds of fonts. It may not be flashy, but it consistently looks good, and that’s what matters.

A homepage that encourages discovery

We want it to be easier than ever to explore every nook and cranny of the site directly from the homepage. I think we’ve accomplished that with more resources displayed that previously were hidden or hard to find, like style and grooming guides grouped by age.

That, plus an improved search experience, will hopefully encourage more time spent with us each week.

A better experience on mobile

This is one of those “Duh” moments, but for so long, I prioritized how the site looked on a computer, not a phone. But I know that’s exactly how the majority of our community visits SG.

So this time around, we made sure that the mobile viewing experience is on point. Fonts are super-legible on even the smallest screens, and improved dropdown menus make for easier toggling between sections of the site.

Stay tuned for more to come

This site relaunch comes at a time of change for businesses like Style Girlfriend. We’ve been on the losing side of a war with search engines that prioritize larger websites (think: a search for the best pants for athletic legs returning results from Forbes, or even CNN?!? over SG) that makes getting in front of more guys like you difficult, if not impossible.

Because of that, we are also taking this opportunity to shift our editorial strategy to change with the times. We’re never again going to be the #1 search result for “best men’s pocket tees” and truthfully, churning out that kind of content doesn’t interest our team much anyway.

Probably because the word “content” makes me cringe. Content is something AI can generate. Stories are something people write. We developed an audience who tuned in for the voice of Style Girlfriend — first my own, and then a whole team of amazing women who enthusiastically got onboard with the mission to help guys look, feel, and act their best.

As such, you can expect more roundups of style inspiration, and fewer explicit, “Here’s exactly how to wear this or that” features. We believe we can help more with the Wardrobe Report (a steal at 9 shoppable outfits for $9 each month) and through the more personalized Wardrobe Reboot, where you connect with a member of our team to talk through your style goals and receive a 100% customized digital style plan complete with shopping list and outfits tailored to your lifestyle, body and budget.

I encourage you to explore those premium options if Style Girlfriend’s fashion resources have been helpful to you. Both options are great, too, if you want to show your support for Style Girlfriend with your wallet because honestly, I don’t have the energy to launch a Substack.

There’s still some behind the scenes work to do — we’re thinking through the ways we tell stories, and how we can better fold you, the Style Girlfriend community, into the company’s mission more directly.

In the meantime, my hope is that you find the new site easier to navigate, and that you find yourself discovering stories you haven’t read before, or considering premium offerings you may not have previously even known existed.

If you spot any room for improvement, or have ideas on how we could serve you better, feel free to reach out at [email protected]. I love hearing from you.
