Shortly after defending her decision to like an Instagram post by Donald Trump, Brittany Mahomes is calling for tolerance.

On Monday, August 26, the model and wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a post from Christian blogger Shane Pruitt on Instagram Stories that reads, “Contrary to the tone of the world today…You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.” Mahomes added “Read that again!” to the Story.

On the surface, this looks like a pretty reasonable request: some people in this country disagree with other people in this country, but you don’t have to be mean about it. And we can only imagine the kind of vitriol Mahomes might be getting, and why she wants those who criticize her to at least be respectful. But the original post that she liked, which started the backlash…is not very respectful.

The Trump post she apparently liked, uploaded on August 13, is a graphic of the GOP’s 2024 presidential platform and includes 20 promises, including “Carry out the largest deportation operation in American history” and “Cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory, Radical Gender Ideology.” After Mahomes appeared to have double-tapped the post (which she since appears to have un-double-tapped), the backlash arrived.
