Jury President Isabelle Huppert was spotted arriving at the Hotel Excelsior this morning, taking a break from her official red carpet duties at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
Fresh off last night’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ premiere, she emerged in an outfit that left many of us scratching our heads: a Juicy Couture ‘90s-inspired velour tracksuit from Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, topped off with an “I Paris & Balenciaga” cap and a Balenciaga Plastic Grande coffee cup. And to be honest, I only have a few words to say about this.
Make. It. Stop.
It’s becoming increasingly hard to watch and so disingenuous. Isabelle, a celebrated icon of French cinema known for her sophistication and elegance, has always been a beacon of style on the red carpet. But lately, her fashion choices have taken a turn for the bizarre. I mean, come on. What is going on here?
The tracksuit look—a throwback to the early 2000s—is something I never thought I’d see on Isabelle, especially at an event as prestigious as the Venice Film Festival. Juicy Couture was fun in its heyday, but that time has passed, and seeing it reimagined by Balenciaga in this way feels like a desperate attempt to make fetch happen again.
It’s as if Isabelle is trying too hard to prove something positive about Balenciaga, but the result is still far from convincing.
And let’s not forget the Balenciaga plastic Grande coffee cup—an accessory that feels more like a gag gift.
On this current campaign, I’m surprised she didn’t wear the red Uggs.
