Sexy! Chic! Sophisticated! While these are all words that could be used to describe Selena Gomez at any given time, that’s also how Gomez’s go-to celebrity nail artist, Tom Bachik, referred to her most recent manicure—and how I’m choosing to refer to her whole vibe right now.

Currently promoting the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, in which Gomez stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, the 32-year-old could have followed the recent trend of embracing over-the-top ensembles to help generate even more press for the series. (See: It Ends With Us.)

However, the Rare Beauty founder seems to be taking a more quiet-luxury approach (or, in August 2024–speak, a “very demure, very mindful” one), and opted to wear a simple and elegant, little black dress (more specifically, a halter-neck Self Portrait minidress) to the show’s Los Angeles premiere instead.

Considering this, it’s no surprise, then, that Gomez selected the always-in-vogue classic red manicure to go with it. You simply can’t go wrong with a classic LBD and matching red mani. You just can’t!

“Sexy, chic, and sophisticated… Red nails say it all. ❤️💅,” Bachik captioned his most recent photo of Gomez, tagging Selena Gomez’s account and #OnlyMurders.

Red nail polish in all its variations have been trending this year—and since the invention of nail polish, probably—but this look is especially ideal for transitioning from brat summer into demure fall.

Much like Jennifer Lopez’s American French mani, the classic red manicure is called “classic” for a reason: It’s timeless! And it looks great. I myself learned the importance of this when I tried painting my nails “brat green” recently and realized that, no, I am not meant for “experimentation.”
