Cate Blanchett Wore Armani Privé To The 'Rumours' San Sebastian Festival

Cate Blanchett took on dual responsibilities at this weekend’s San Sebastian Film Festival. Not only was she promoting her latest film, ‘Rumours’, but she was also honoured with the prestigious Donostia Award, recognizing her immense contributions to the film industry. However, despite the magnitude of the occasion, her fashion choices didn’t quite live up to her typical sartorial standards, for me.

Rumours Premiere & Award Ceremony

Cate donned an Armani Privé gold lace gown, featuring a high neckline, long sleeves, and an array of pearls in varying sizes. While the elements of this gown sound promising—pearls, gold lace, and a regal silhouette—it simply didn’t deliver her usual impact. I feel like I should be in love with this gown, but I’m struggling. The dull shade of gold seems to sap the life out of what could have been a stunning moment. Instead of feeling celebratory, the gown leaves me somewhat underwhelmed. Perhaps it was better in person.

Rumours Photocall

Cate’s photocall look from Hogan was another near miss for me. The denim suit, with its tan leather piping, was well-considered in terms of colour coordination. I appreciate how the shades were thoughtfully selected, giving the ensemble a polished feel. But, those lug sole platform shoes? They just didn’t work for me. The heavy footwear seems so out of place, clashing with the otherwise sleek and tailored suit.

Cate has been a regular at nearly every major film festival this year, gracing each with her undeniable elegance. And to be fair, after so many standout moments, she’s allowed an off day or two. For me, this was one of them.

While Cate frequently sets the bar incredibly high, this weekend’s looks fell short of the fashion magic I feel like we’re used to seeing from her.
