Jurnee Smollett made her debut at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, attending both the premiere and the photocall for her new film, ‘The Order.’
The actress wore a custom Victorian-inspired Louis Vuitton blue bustier gown accented with draping details that gave her a regal appearance. While there is no doubt that Jurnee looked stunning, I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed.
The gown itself was a beautiful piece, but I expected something more modern from Jurnee.
Over the years, she has become known for her bold fashion choices, especially during the lockdown period when her style was edgier and more experimental. I miss that era of her fashion journey. It’s understandable that we all evolve style-wise, and it’s been four years since those lockdown days, but I find it hard to embrace this latest style direction, as all of her Louis Vuitton choices seem to lack the innovation and edge that I associate with her personal style, and the label itself.
If you are looking at this gown and saying,“this would be great for Adele.” Guess what? They share the same stylist.
Jurnee styled her look with Louis Vuitton silver leather sandals and pieces from the Fantasy High Jewelry set from the Spirit Collection. The jewelry, featuring a stunning array of white and yellow gold necklaces, earrings, and rings, adding a touch of glamour to her ensemble.
My lukewarm feelings continued when I saw Jurnee’s photocall look earlier in the day. She wore a Fendi cropped top and high-waisted pencil skirt with an all-over FF motif.
This look felt more suited for someone like Jennifer Lopez, as I can picture the singer in Miami promoting her cocktail line wearing this outfit, rather than an international film festival.
