A Refreshing Chanel Moment

As a Chanel brand ambassador, Margaret Qualley possibilities are seemingly endless, yet we often see her in similar silhouettes and styles, which leaves me wanting more variety. However, at ‘The Substance’ premiere during the Toronto Film Festival, Margaret finally gave us something different—and it was a delight.

Wearing a Chanel Fall 2024 Haute Couture ensemble, she stepped out in an aqua green taffeta cape embroidered with crystals and embellished with jewelled buttons, draped over a black velvet bustier and shorts. The playful silhouette and mix of textures felt fresh and fun, breaking the cycle of predictable looks we’ve seen from her.

For once, this wasn’t a Chanel look that felt like déjà vu, nor did it give off the sense of a red carpet Groundhog Day. Margaret looked like she was having fun with her fashion choices, and her expression showed that she was loving the moment just as much as I was. Completing the ensemble with Chanel High Jewelry and a pair of non-boring Chanel shoes, this was easily one of her best appearances in recent memory.

A Sartorial Misstep

Demi Moore has been on a fashion high since the start of 2024, but especially at Cannes Film Festival where she served godmother duties with a string of high-glamour looks. From Cannes to her recent appearances, she’s been delivering one stylish moment after another, reminding us all why she’s such a fashion icon.

But this Thom Browne look fell flat for me. The combination of a shirt, tie, cummerbund, and high-waisted skirt felt too formal, bordering on headmistress territory. It was too authoritative and rigid for someone with Demi’s natural ease and flair, and it didn’t feel like a good match for her usual style.

Don’t get me wrong—she didn’t look bad. Demi is too polished to ever really miss the mark completely. But this look lacked the excitement, charm, and elegance that we’ve come to expect from her. It felt too restrained, and while I appreciate a fashion risk, this one just didn’t pay off for me.
