Milena Smit attends the 'La Habitación De Al Lado / The Room Next Door' premiere during the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival

Milena Smit, our beloved neo-goth queen, made a captivating return to the red carpet for the promotion of her new film, ‘El Hoyo 2 (The Platform 2)’, at the 2024 San Sebastian Film Festival.

Known for her signature dark aesthetic, Milena brought some surprises with her recent appearances, balancing her usual gothic glamour with a touch of freshness that both intrigued and perplexed.

Premiere

On Thursday, Milena wore a stunning black silk satin crepe gown from the Givenchy Resort 2025 collection. The dress, adorned with feather pompoms and crystal embroidery, spoke to her love for all things dark and dramatic. However, what caught my attention was her lighter, neutral makeup, which added a different dimension to her usual moody vibe. It felt refreshingly soft—a new layer to her look that suggested she might be experimenting with expanding her aesthetic beyond her typical brooding beauty.

Photocall

The following day, Milena opted for a completely different approach at the film’s photocall. She chose a Loewe ensemble featuring a black wool sleeveless top with a contrasting brown collar and the infamous draped trousers from the Fall 2024 collection. While I appreciate her desire to keep things fresh, the styling left me feeling a bit disconnected. The shoes and hairstyle didn’t seem to blend well with the outfit, and overall, this new direction felt at odds with the image Milena has so effectively cultivated.

Part of my hesitation is due to how accustomed I am to Milena’s striking neo-goth aesthetic. This lighter, slightly more experimental direction felt foreign to her well-established persona. While it’s always exciting to see actors evolve their style, I find myself slightly hesitant, while yearning for her darkly romantic edge.
