The ‘Emily in Paris’ cast has finally landed in the city where it all began, attending a photocall at La Samaritaine in Paris on Thursday.
After feeling somewhat underwhelmed by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu’s look for the Rome premiere, I was hopeful that she’d pull things back for this event—and she certainly did, albeit with some reservations.
Wearing one of her go-to labels, Saint Laurent, Philippine stepped out in a stunning white sequin dress that immediately caught my attention. The shimmering fabric and sleek silhouette encapsulated the effortless Parisian elegance she’s known for. There’s no denying that this dress was a standout piece, one that perfectly suited both the occasion and her personal style. The subtle sparkle felt like the right kind of glamorous for this series.
However, while I’m enamoured by the dress itself, I can’t say the same for the black opera gloves she chose to pair it with. Gloves are a bold styling choice, and I understand why her team incorporated them to inject a touch of old Hollywood glamour into the look. They certainly play into the romanticised Parisian aesthetic, adding a retro edge to an otherwise modern outfit. But in this case, they felt a bit mismatched.
Opera gloves can either elevate a look or distract from it, and unfortunately, I think the latter happened here. The gloves felt unnecessary, especially when the dress had such strong stand-alone appeal. Had the accessories been more minimalist—perhaps skipping the gloves altogether—the dress would have shined even brighter. While they did coordinate with her black shoes, as we saw more clearly in her Instagram photos, the gloves felt like an overcomplication of an otherwise sleek look.
To her credit, this outfit was a step up from her previous appearance in Rome. But when styling a dress as striking as this one, sometimes less is more.
Pomellato jewels completed her look.
