Daisy Edgar-Jones at the 2024 BFI London Film Festival Luminous Gala

The BFI Luminous Gala, held at The Roundhouse in London on Tuesday, was full of notable moments as several celebrities joined Tilda Swinton for the event. While some embraced bold fashion choices that hit all the right notes, others left us wishing for a bit more magic. Here is a closer look at each attendee’s red carpet style.

Embracing Gucci Rosso Ancora

Daisy Edgar-Jones wasted no time selecting her first look from the Gucci Spring 2025 collection. Now that autumn is here, I’m embracing this Gucci Rosso Ancora shade, which feels perfect for the season. My only hope is that we won’t see an overload of this colour like Valentino’s Pink PP. Beyond the gorgeous colour, what I love most about Daisy’s dress is the gold detailing, which feels almost African tribal-inspired. It’s a beautiful, vibrant look that makes a statement without being overpowering.

A Return to Chanel

It appears Ellie Bamber’s Chanel hiatus is over. The British actress wore a part-knit, part-sheer lace Chanel dress, accessorized heavily with gold Chanel pieces. The abundance of gold accents brought a touch of opulence, and I must say, I would wear this look in a heartbeat. It’s sophisticated, fun, and very Chanel—all the things we expect from Ellie.

Understated Chanel Elegance

Felicity Jones also chose Chanel, but I was less enthusiastic about her look. The black top and skirt combination felt a little too understated for my liking. It’s in line with Felicity’s usual minimalist style, but it left me wanting more.

Dolce & Gabbana Sophistication

Joe Locke wore a Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 two-piece Sicilia-fit tuxedo, styled with a luxurious silk Martini shirt that elevated the look. While I am growing slightly weary of the cropped blazer trend, Joe’s sartorial elegance sold the look to me.

Loewe Lacking Polish

I have always appreciated Josh O’Connor’s sense of style, but his Loewe double-breasted tuxedo left me disappointed. It looked as though he’d been wearing it all day, lacking the polish expected on a red carpet. Josh usually delivers memorable moments, but this one seemed to miss the mark due to its unkempt appearance.

In Need of a Fashion Makeover

I really wish for a day when I can praise Lashana Lynch’s red carpet looks, but this was another miss. It’s clear that her current stylist isn’t bringing out her best. At this point, I think Lashana should consider working with Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald—the dynamic duo known for elevating their clients’ red carpet looks. Lashana deserves a stylist who understands her strengths and can deliver consistent results.

Chanel and Déjà Vu

The problem with Marisa Abela’s Chanel Fall 2022 silver embellished dress is that Vanessa Paradis wore it first, and her styling made it look less like a fancy bathrobe. Marisa’s take didn’t quite capture the effortless glam that this dress needs, leaving the ensemble feeling flat rather than fabulous.
