Naomi Scott stepped out at the Meta x ‘Smile 2’ Spooky Season event in New York City, offering us a fall-forward look that’s bound to stir some strong opinions. Wearing a forest green Abadia Fall 2024 dress, she embraced the current bubble hem trend, a divisive silhouette that either delights or perplexes, depending on where you stand.
There’s no denying the richness of the deep green hue, which felt perfectly in sync with the season. The ruching on the bodice added texture and a flattering fit to the upper half of the dress, ensuring a form-fitting elegance. But then we reach the bubble hem—a statement detail that’s been reappearing in collections and red carpet lately, and one that always seems to spark debate.
For those who love a bit of playful drama, the bubble hem brings a sense of whimsy, adding volume in unexpected places. On Naomi, it certainly created visual intrigue, offering something more dynamic than a traditional hemline. However, the silhouette might be overwhelming for some, especially considering the way it can distort proportions. While Naomi’s height helped balance the shape, it’s easy to imagine how the bubble hem might not be as flattering on someone less statuesque.
While I appreciate the boldness of the choice, I remain undecided on whether this trend truly adds to the overall aesthetic or simply detracts from it. That said, for an event centered around Halloween and “spooky season,” this look certainly captured the theatrical vibe. Still, bubble hems remain a love-it-or-hate-it detail, and this dress won’t sway everyone’s opinion.
Looking at the model in the look book, the dress works better for me with a longer skirt. What are your thoughts?
