The Swifties have done another close reading of Taylor Swift’s latest night-out outfit and discovered a possible Easter egg hinting at Reputation (Taylor’s Version), the long-anticipated re-recording of Swift’s 2017 album Reputation. So let’s look at the evidence.
The outfit, which you can see in these photos published on Page Six, is a black-and-white-checked miniskirt with a matching trench, which Swift wore with a black turtleneck for a night at members-only supper club Chez Margaux with some of her famous friends on November 20. (These friends included Faith Hill, Este Haim, and Ronan Farrow.) Importantly, Swift accessorized the outfit with chunky platform loafers to give the outfit a slightly punk-ish vibe, and a small black bag.
Now, fans on TikTok have already noticed that the outfit strongly resembles a ’fit Swift wore back in 2016, during her bleached blonde era.
That outfit included a black-and-white plaid midi-dress topped with a black leather jacket and chunky black ankle boots, with a suspiciously similar black mini bag. Coincidence?
Reputation was originally released in 2017, but 2016 was the year that inspired the songs of the album. This was the year that Kanye West released “Famous,” with the lyric about making “that bitch famous,” in reference to Swift, which in turn sparked Swift’s feud with Kim Kardashian. Swift also went through her messy public breakup with Calvin Harris in 2016. Both the 2016 outfit and the ensemble Swift wore on November 20 are in the edgy, black-and-white aesthetic iconic to the Reputation album.
