The Women in Cinema event at the 2024 Red Sea International Film Festival brought dazzling looks to the red carpet at the Jeddah Yacht Club. With a mix of ethereal glamour, gothic drama, and daring risks, the evening offered plenty to discuss.
Ombre Elegance
Eva Longoria delivered a throwback to her Cannes Film Festival best, wearing an Elie Saab Fall 2024 Haute Couture black strapless column gown. The purple ombre feather detailing gave the look a nostalgic yet captivating edge. Some may call it “dated,” but for Eva, it felt triumphant. Thankfully, she skipped the leather gloves from the runway styling, as they would have completely derailed this look for her. Had this been Anne Hathaway, I would have insisted on the gloves.
Gothic Revival
Channeling gothic glamour, Catherine Zeta-Jones stunned in a black lace Marchesa gown, evoking her Morticia Addams persona. The Briony Raymond jewels added a subtle yet sophisticated sparkle to her look. While the videos of her gown showcased its embellished detailing on her gown beautifully, it’s a shame the photos didn’t do it justice. This was a dark, dramatic moment that played perfectly to her strengths.
Caped Conundrum
Emily Blunt rebounded from her disappointing opening look with a black Gucci gown featuring a dramatic cape. While the cape added ethereal glamour, the necklace clashed awkwardly with the cape’s ties. Either the cape or the necklace needed to go for a more cohesive look. The only way this could have worked seamlessly was if the cape had been attached to the shoulder straps.
Michelle Yeoh: A Rare Miss
Once again, we see pieces not working together as Michelle Yeoh opted to style her pewter Schiaparelli velvet dress, accented with a gold key, alongside a clashing diamond and ruby necklace. The overall styling—particularly the fringe (bangs), which has never been her best look—fell short of her usual standard. Michelle’s fashion often oscillates between perfection and perplexity, and unfortunately, this was one of the latter. Selena Gomez and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu presented a much more seamless black version of this dress.
Standard Sophistication
Jasmine Tookes found the perfect balance in a Zuhair Murad Pre-Fall 2024 off-the-shoulder gown. The intricate silver beading rendered a necklace unnecessary, letting the gown’s embellishments take center stage. This understated elegance is what we are used to from the model at this point. Jasmine and Cynthia Erivo are the only ones to deliver two flawless 10/10 looks this weekend.
