Rihanna and A$AP Rocky attending The Fashion Awards 2024 should have been a moment, but instead, it left me feeling slightly conflicted.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m about 60% in love with Rihanna’s Christian Lacroix Fall 2002 Haute Couture look. The off-the-shoulder blue fur coat paired with the matching bustier has a dramatic, vintage allure that feels true to her unapologetic style.
Is the fur-slant hat a touch over-the-top? Yes. But without it, there’s no magic. Take away the hat, and it’s just Rihanna in a blue fur coat. The hat is what gives this look its eccentric, couture edge.
If I was to point to an issue here, it is actually A$AP Rocky. While his navy Bottega Veneta Resort 2025 ensemble, styled with a red leather tie and the brand’s Jim loafers, is undeniably polished, the disconnect between their looks is glaring.
She’s dressed for The Fashion Awards—a celebration of artistry, drama, and daring style—while he looks like he’s headed to valet duty.
To be clear, I’m not saying I expected A$AP to match Rihanna fur for fur. That would’ve been unnecessary. But there’s a lack of synergy here that’s impossible to ignore. Synchronised energy could have elevated this moment into something unforgettable.
Rihanna’s styling—David Morris jewels and Paula Rowan leather gloves—adds a final flourish to her already impactful outfit. It’s clear she came to serve. But standing next to A$AP, the contrast is baffling.
Rihanna gave us a look to dissect and debate. A$AP? He gave us well-dressed but underwhelming.
