Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose hit the TCL Chinese Theatre on Monday for the Love Hurts premiere, proving that a little bit of theme dressing never hurts—especially when done right.
Let’s start with Ke Huy Quan, the man who single-handedly made brooches in menswear a thing. After a noticeable absence from his recent looks, the brooch is back, and in the form of a love heart and arrow, no less. A subtle nod to the film? Absolutely. But let’s not overlook the rest of his look: a gorgeous deep brown velvet suit paired with a terracotta shirt and matching tie. The colour combo is rich, warm, and completely unexpected—like a perfectly brewed cup of espresso on a chilly day.
Then we have Ariana DeBose, who stepped out in Balmain. Yes, it featured yet another military-style jacket (sigh), and yes, I’m a little bored of them at this point, but credit where it’s due—she wore it well. And more importantly, it wasn’t taffeta. That alone deserves a standing ovation.
As for the heart-shaped lock detail? Sure, it’s a little cheesy, but if we think of it in the Pont des Arts “love lock bridge” kind of way, it suddenly becomes quite charming in terms of being thematic. Plus, I appreciate that she didn’t go full rom-com chic with her look. The sheer shirt underneath adds a hint of Spandau Ballet romance, without feeling overly saccharine. Overall, a strong showing from both.
