Tilda Swinton Wore Chanel Haute Couture To The Berlin Film Festival Opening Ceremony

When it comes to Tilda Swinton, you can always expect the unexpected – except, of course, when it’s Chanel. And at the opening ceremony of the Berlin Film Festival, where she received the Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement, the Scottish actress delivered a look that was equal parts classic, and quintessentially Tilda.

Stepping onto a red carpet that was so cold parts of it were dusted with snow, Tilda braved the elements in a custom navy-blue Chanel coat dress that had us all doing a double take. If you immediately thought of the Fall 2019 Haute Couture collection, you’re not alone. The pearl and crystal embroidery, jewelled buttons, and feathered details felt inspired by that collection – but with some fresh twists.

Practical? Absolutely. Stylish? Without a doubt. The heavier fabric of the coat dress served more than just aesthetic purposes – it also kept the actress warm as Berlin’s icy weather decided to crash the festivities. Because if you’re going to get snowed on during your big night, you might as well be wrapped in couture.

A Chanel High Jewelry Roubachka ring and Comète 1932 earrings provided the perfect finishing touch, proving that even when Tilda plays it familiar, she’s still in a league of her own.
