‘A Complete Unknown’ may be an ensemble piece, but Timothée Chalamet took center stage solo at the Berlin Film Festival premiere on Friday evening.
Fittingly dressed for Valentine’s Day, the actor embraced the spirit of the occasion, donning a custom pink Chrome Hearts hoodie, ribbed tank top, and low-slung jeans that cheekily revealed his CH-monogrammed boxer shorts. With this look, Timothée fully channeled his inner babygirl—a move that surely sent his fans into a frenzy.
I initially found this laid-back approach charming, but I’m struggling to get on board with this look. I fully supported his recent pivot towards relaxed, playful fashion choices, but for a prestigious European film festival? It’s giving low effort—and even the Valentine’s Day tie-in can’t save it for me.
Timothée has always danced to the beat of his own style drum, but there’s a difference between nonchalant and noncommittal. The Chrome Hearts look feels more suited to a skatepark than a Berlinale premiere.

Honestly, my first reaction? Haider Ackermann, come and get your boy! Because style-wise, Timmy feels like he’s in free fall right now.
Perhaps he’s rebelling against the expected or leaning into a new era of anti-red-carpet dressing. But if that’s the case, I can’t help but miss the days when he balanced cool-kid edge with polished elegance.
Fashion risks are what made Timothée a red carpet favourite, but this one just doesn’t land.
