After making a strong statement on the Oscars red carpet, Nicolas Ghesquière continued his dominance at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party by dressing eight celebrities for the occasion. But did lightning strike twice?
Bringing the drama but not quite the impact
There were mixed reviews on Ana de Armas’ dress for the main event, which I personally loved, but this Louis Vuitton look? I’m struggling. I appreciate that she’s experimenting with more playful pieces—this partnership hasn’t exactly given us much to get excited about—but the embroidered ruffled skirt isn’t working for me. Had the bandeau been paired with a sleek, floor-length pencil skirt, I would have been fully on board. Instead, the ruffles cheapen the look, making it feel disjointed rather than directional. Louis Vuitton High Jewellery collection pieces completed her look.

A trio of Louis Vuitton interpretations
From left to right, Alana Haim got the short straw with her Louis Vuitton pink bustier tea-length dress. The fabric pulls are driving me crazy, and I’m not sold on this colour for her.
Este Haim, on the other hand, is by far my favorite in this Louis Vuitton terracotta bias-cut satin gown. And no, it’s not just my tall girl alliance talking. The draped pleated neckline and the effortless elegance of the silhouette make this a standout moment.
Danielle Haim’s take on Louis Vuitton’s now-signature dimensional skirt hemline works much better than Alana’s version. The dark gold silk taffeta bustier tea-length gown gives more volume and structure, making it a much stronger statement.
All three sisters wore Louis Vuitton High Jewellery, and while I appreciate the effort, I can’t help but think custom shoes in a shade other than black would have elevated all of these looks.

A little tweak would have gone a long way
If I could change just one thing about Leila George’s Louis Vuitton black gown, it would be removing that tulle from the neckline. A plunging neckline would have felt so much cleaner and more impactful. Louis Vuitton High Jewellery earrings completed her look.

A sci-fi dream done right
Hannah Einbinder’s Louis Vuitton black organza embroidered trapeze gown with a green slip dress underneath is giving Space Odyssey vibes, and I mean that in the best possible way. There is something about those embellishments that feel futuristic.

A second chance at a winning look
I think it’s safe to say that I much prefer Stacy Martin’s Louis Vuitton fluid gown embroidered with light gold glass tubes over the look she wore for the main event. It has a softness, and effortlessness that I associate with her style. Nicolas Ghesquière’s more experimental looks rarely work for her.

Déjà vu, but make it Louis Vuitton
Vic Carmen Sonne’s satin V-neck Louis Vuitton dress feels like something I’ve seen before—most notably, it instantly reminded me of Selena Gomez’s Dior dress from the Rudderless LA premiere in 2014. While the comparison isn’t a bad thing, it does make this feel less fresh. Also, those black Louis Vuitton shoes? They aren’t doing this dress any favours, but the Louis Vuitton High Jewellery certainly adds a touch of refinement.
Overall, it was a mixed bag for Louis Vuitton at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. While some stars shined in their custom looks, others left me wishing for some minor tweaks.
