Daisy Edgar-Jones was back on the red carpet at the 2025 SXSW Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas, promoting On Swift Horses after its initial debut at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. And much like that premiere, the British actress turned to Gucci. But unlike that moment, this one has me tilting my head in confusion rather than nodding in approval.
A slime-green belt lace bodysuit (very Nickelodeon-core), a leather pencil skirt with a lime-wash inspired print (interesting, but does it work?), and a chunky chain-link necklace featuring Gucci’s iconic horsebit. Oh, and let’s not forget the black shoes that feel like an afterthought. This entire ensemble is giving “a collection in limbo”—which makes sense considering Gucci is currently without a creative director following Sabato De Sarno’s departure.
There’s something about this that feels like it was cobbled together in a rush. Daisy is stunning, and she’s had some excellent Gucci moments, but this look feels like the brand is throwing every trend at the wall to see what sticks. Y2K lace? Sure. Horsebit nostalgia? Why not. A skirt that looks like it was marinated in lime juice? Go for it. But when you put it all together, it just doesn’t gel.
While we may have our concerns about Demna stepping into the Gucci arena, at least he may have a singular vision.
