Selena Gomez knows a thing or two about making a statement, and her latest Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon appearance was no exception. Sitting alongside Benny Blanco to promote their upcoming album I Said I Love You First, she not only gave insight into her music but also played a round of “True Confessions” with Jimmy.
I’m sure you instantly recognise Selena dress, as she just added another chapter to the never-ending legacy of the Thierry Mugler Vampire dress.
Originally designed in 1981, this sculpted black velvet masterpiece is the definition of Mugler magic. The gravity-defying puff sleeves, the sharply peaked bustier, and that dramatic high-low peplum—this dress has attitude, drama, and just the right amount of danger. It’s a dress that commands attention, which is probably why it refuses to stay in the archives.
First, we saw it on Zara Larsson at the 2016 MTV Awards, in 2020 Dua Lipa wore it on SNL. Natalie Portman and Daniela Lalita revived it in 2021, and in 2022 Sydney Sweeney followed suit. Now, Selena has entered the Vampire club, proving that this may be the most-worn vintage dress of the decade. And yet, it never feels tired.
With black tights and Louboutin heels, she kept the styling simple and let the dress do what it does best—own the room. Considering the timeless appeal of this Mugler masterpiece, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it again. And again. And honestly? I’m here for it.
