Your grandma’s ballet pumps have officially won over Anya Taylor-Joy.
Between classic ballet flats and more current sneakerinas, are there still any ballerina styles to discover at this point? That question has an affirmative answer, as designers’ creativity often seems endless. But in this case, we’re not here to talk about some unknown future style, but rather a nostalgic shoe that has been on our grandmothers’ feet forever. We’re referring to those nicknamed “grandma ballerinas” a classic design that stands out for its heel, just a couple of centimeters high.
Honestly, the fact that these ballet heels are more than approved by one of the most prolific young actors on the scene is irrevocable proof that age doesn’t matter at all in fashion. They have their detractors, yes. But what’s not? What’s more, the range of celebrities who adore them expands, with names ranging from Lily Rose-Depp to Queen Letizia herself.
Getting down to business, we have to say that these ballerinas stand out for two main reasons. First, they add a few extra inches (but not too much); and second, they’re extremely comfortable. Their sensible heel is chic, versatile, and ideal for everyday wear while walking from one place to another.
In Anya Taylor-Joy’s case, she chose red, round-toed leather heels and wore them with a cable-knit sweater and a black pencil skirt with a slit. She forewent accessories (except for her small glass bottle of Coca-Cola) and walked arm-in-arm with her (very well-dressed) husband, musician Malcolm McRae
This spring is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on some ballet pumps. In fact, it is very easy to imagine them styled with our favorite jeans, skirts or dresses (as we said, they go with everything). But if you’re still unsure, ask your grandmothers or mothers, and you’ll see they’ve probably got a pair of ballet flats in their shoe rack that you can try on.
