London’s V&A Museum played host to a glittering celebration as the ‘CARTIER’ exhibition was unveiled with a Gala Dinner fit for royalty, gems and gowns alike. While the jewellery was the undisputed headliner—who could compete with Cartier’s legacy?—the fashion guest list gave it a run for its money. From vintage déjà vu to tailoring with attitude, here’s a roundup of some of the most notable looks from the evening who joined Emma Corrin, Ellie Bamber and Gemma Chan.
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V
Maya Jama walked straight out of 1995—by way of Taylor Russell’s wardrobe—in the exact same John Galliano Fall 1995 black wool and silk ruffle jacket and bias-cut skirt from the Dolores collection. While Maya wore it well, this was less “inspired by” and more “Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V.” The Galliano piece is undeniably stunning, and yes, the silhouette remains timeless, but when the original look is still fresh in our minds—thank you Taylor—this replication lacks the impact it could’ve had. High marks for the fashion history nod, but this is the second look in a row that she has been inspired by Taylor. It’s giving, “fashion stalker.”

She came in a cummerbund and conquered
Marisa Abela continues her love affair with tailoring, this time in a sleek menswear-inspired look from Nina Ricci—a label usually synonymous with frilly dresses and romantic silhouettes. The surprise twist? A cummerbund. It’s giving red carpet meets tuxedo fantasy. It’s not often you associate Nina Ricci with this level of sharp suiting, but Marisa pulls it off with a cool elegance that speaks to her ongoing penchant for power dressing. A pleasant surprise from head to hem.

corset couture
Celeste channelled vintage glamour in a custom Jude Macasinag creation that deserves its own museum exhibit. The structured corset, framed in lace and erupting into a voluminous tulle skirt, was drama done right. While the eye makeup veered into heavy-handed territory for me, I’m choosing to focus on the dress—a delicate yet theatrical number topped off with a feather-accented fascinator. It’s giving ‘20s cabaret singer meets 2025 red carpet queen. Maison Margiela Tabi pump sandals completed her look.

keep it Gucci, keep it chill
Paul Mescal stuck to his signature low-key, no-fuss energy in Gucci. It was classic Paul—cool, relaxed, but still sharp. Standing alongside Emma Corrin, he held his own in a look that proves you don’t need flash to make an impression.

Tailoring with a Modern Twist
Australian actress Sophie Wilde chose precision and polish with a neck-tie skirt set from Oude Waag’s Fall 2025 collection. The label’s tailoring prowess was on full display, and Sophie’s decision to wear the cropped blazer open added just the right amount of effortlessness to an otherwise structured silhouette. The skirt’s clean lines and the sharp cut of the blazer brought a modern, intellectual twist to eveningwear.
