Even though she was technically Golden Globe nominated for the movie Babylon, the pink halter-neck gown Margot Robbie wore on the red carpet was all Barbie. The shimmery, baby-pink dress includes a jeweled brooch at the throat, an optical-illusion vee pattern, and a mermaid shape ending in a combined ruffle-and-feather fringe skirt.
According to her short pre-show interview with Loni Love, Robbie is wearing her usual Chanel, and her look lets the dress do most of the talking. She paired the gown with loose waves and natural makeup, and the only jewelry I can see is her diamond engagement ring.
I wouldn’t necessarily call the look #Barbiecore, just because the color of the dress is so soft. Maybe Barbiecore-light. Maybe Robbie already got her fill of full-on Barbiecore style when filming Greta Gerwig’s hotly-anticipated Barbie movie, in which she stars as the titular Barbie. In fact, when photos of Robbie in costume went viral, the actor told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, “I can’t tell you how mortified we were by the way.” She added, “We look like we’re laughing, having fun, but dying on the inside. I was like, ‘This is the most humiliating moment of my life.’ So embarrassed.”
Well, there’s certainly no cause for Margot Robbie to be embarrassed by this understated Barbie-adjacent look. It helps that there are no roller skates involved. As for whether the Barbie movie will be as wild as Babylon, Robbie only told Love that they have “different vibes.”
