Selena Gomez has started the new year by forgoing her honey blonde hair and balayage highlights and trading in the style for a new look at a recent Rare Beauty event.
More specifically, Gomez debuted a new layered midi-cut at the launch of Rare Beauty’s Find Comfort Body Collection in Los Angeles on January 10. The new style was not a bob but rather grazed her shoulders. Styled into gentle, tousled waves, it’s a timeless and versatile hairstyle that’s enjoying a resurgence in salons, as proved by a slew of A-listers sporting the style, like Penélope Cruz and Jennifer Aniston, who both showed off their own takes on the chop over the past week too.
Aside from Gomez’s flattering, volume-boosting cut, the Rare Beauty founder’s allover color is right on trend as well. She showed off her own take on espresso brunette, a elegant shade that has become increasingly popular over the past few months.
The whole look is very 2024, according to hairstylist Santiago Agüero. “We’re going to see more natural tones with warm brown highlights, dark mahogany, and subtle contrasts becoming popular,” he says, and also notes that we’re looking for hair colors that complement our natural hair color and skin tone. Overall, we’re continuing to lean in the quiet luxury-inspired direction this year.
Does this mean caffeine is going to be the biggest hair trend of 2024? After last year’s latte makeup moment, it just might be. Especially if Selena Gomez has anything to do with it.
