The belt is back. You know the belt. The oversized studded leather belt the Y2K girlies wore over absolutely everything to make the outfit more “boho.” The belt. Well, now Kaia Gerber is wearing the belt, and over an off-the-shoulder jersey tee to boot. If we go any further into the aughts, I’m going to have to start underdying my hair and using my hot pink Motorola Razr.
Arriving at an Olivia Rodrigo concert in New York City on April 9, Gerber was photographed wearing The Belt buckled around her hips and over her black handkerchief-hem (handkerchief-hem!) T-shirt. She accessorized with a small brown crescent bag, naturally, and what appear to be navy blue dress pants.
But back to the belt. It’s giving that ubiquitous disc belt from the early 2000s. It’s giving Destiny’s Child. It’s giving The O.C. I’m not sure where, exactly, Kaia Gerber got her giant belt, but you can find many similar options at Free People—whose entire belt collection is determined to make me relive high school.
The Belt: The Sequel has been on the horizon for a while now, with stars like Vanessa Hudgens and Rita Ora bringing back the divisive Y2K-era trend. I guess I can be fine with the big belts, but I draw the line at the mini fedora.
