If you’re a football (soccer) fan, you likely know that the Euros 2024 final between Spain and England took place on Sunday. The anticipation for the match was so high that many shops closed early, and the final night of the Wireless Festival was rescheduled to end at 7pm, giving attendees ample time to catch the 8pm kickoff.
Doja Cat, the headliner for the evening, took the stage precisely on time, playfully engaging with the audience by holding a football and quipping, “I heard there was a game today?” Midway through her set, she added to the excitement, cheering, “Come on, England.”
Doja Cat’s homage to the football final didn’t stop there as she stunned the crowd wearing a custom Dilara Fındıkoğlu Couture ensemble, featuring a hand-painted Union Jack linen 18th-century frock coat and corset. True to her provocative style, she paired the outfit with lace underwear and fishnet tights from Agent Provocateur.
For those in the crowd old enough to remember the Spice Girls’ iconic 1997 Brit Awards performance, Doja Cat’s would have sparked nostalgia, as this look was reminiscent of Geri Halliwell’s unforgettable Union Jack dress. This feeling would have also been amplified by the Doja’s bright red Ginger Spice hair.
The look was complete with cream Giaborghini Phoebe pumps and rock-inspired jewels from Messika and Loree Rodkin.
I have to say I was impressed by how impactful this look is, but I am baffled by the choice of shoes as they didn’t match the boldness and cohesiveness of the rest of her look.
