Tilda Swinton graced the Venice Film Festival red carpet promoting her new film, ‘The Room Next Door’ attending both the photocall and the premiere today, and her sartorial choices marked a significant moment for the fashion world: the quiet comeback of Delpozo.
Photocall: Delpozo’s Return.
Delpozo has been notably absent from the red carpet scene since downsizing its business in 2019, but Tilda’s appearance signalled the Spanish brand’s return.
She wore a custom navy tailored design that marked a departure from the brand’s usual aesthetic. Gone were the architectural silhouettes, bold colour palettes, and intricate embellishments that once made Delpozo’s pieces wearable works of art.
Instead, the new design offered a more practical, everyday appeal. In today’s fashion climate, where practicality often takes precedence, this shift makes sense. Yet, it leaves me longing for the days when Delpozo pushed the boundaries of fashion.
This appearance seems to be the first phase of Delpozo’s comeback strategy. According to the brand’s sole Instagram post, phase two involves a runway show during New York Fashion Week. While I’m excited to see Delpozo back in action, I hope the runway looks bring back some of the brand’s signature finesse and creativity, especially given some fit issues evident in Tilda’s top today.
Tilda completed her photocall look with classic Manolo Blahnik BB pumps, adding a touch of timeless elegance.
Premiere: A Subdued Chanel Choice
For the premiere, Tilda opted for a Chanel Spring 2024 Haute Couture look. It was a far cry from her typical bold choices, but it demonstrated that the white tights, often seen with this collection, are not a necessity. Instead, her organza trousers proved a more flattering choice, perfectly complementing her tulle-embellished jacket.
The dove grey colour of the ensemble might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and I can see how some might feel it washes her out. Surprisingly, Tilda pulled it off without any issues.
These were not show-stopping looks by any means, but not every Tilda Swinton appearance has to be a BDOTW contender—and that’s perfectly okay.
Tilda’s fashion choices today may not have been her most memorable, but they served their purpose: quietly spotlighting a fashion house on the brink of revival and showcasing that even the boldest style icons can opt for subtlety from time to time.
