SATURDAY 8:26 PM SEPTEMBER 28, 2024 PARIS
The fur-clad Cardi B was unmissable on Saturday night at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where McQueen creative director Seán McGirr presented his second ready-to-wear collection for the label. After the show, in which McGirr hearkened back to the brand’s origins with references to the 1994 Fall/Winter collection—in which a pregnant model with a shaved head walked down the runway to a soundtrack of wailing banshees—our editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg found the rapper backstage dolling it up with Carine Roitfeld. Naturally, he wanted to know if Cardi would wear the collection’s final look: a veiled, bejeweled gown dripping head-to-toe in crystals. “I could tell it was very, very heavy,” Cardi said. “But fuck it, it’s fashion!”

CARINE ROITFELD: Can I get a picture with you?
CARDI B: Yes!
MEL OTTENBERG: Oh yeah, let’s get a picture.
CARINE ROITFELD: Very naughty, you’re my darling.
CARDI B: You’re my Paris mother.
CARINE ROITFELD: Oh, good!
MEL OTTENBERG: Look at that, your Paris mother.
CARINE ROITFELD: Thank you, darling.
MEL OTTENBERG: Anything for you, Carine. Hi Cardi!
CARDI B: Hi!
MEL OTTENBERG: You look gorgeous.
CARDI B: Are you on live? Hello everybody. Au revoir.
MEL OTTENBERG: What is this look giving today?
CARDI B: It’s giving Kris Jenner and Anna Wintour have a baby!
MEL OTTENBERG: Yes, yes! Let’s see the shoe. You were tapping that shoe. What size is that? Is that a 36?
CARDI B: 36. Oh, you’re so smart!
MEL OTTENBERG: I clocked it. You know this, I’m a professional.
CARDI B: Clocked that tea.
MEL OTTENBERG: What do you think of the show?
CARDI B: It was beautiful, it was dark, it was edgy. I love it.
MEL OTTENBERG: Would you wear that veil thing at the end?
CARDI B: I could tell it was very, very heavy. But fuck it, it’s fashion, so I’ll wear it!
