On Friday, Zoe Saldana joined her co-star Selena Gomez on the red carpet for the London Film Festival premiere of their new film, ‘Emilia Pérez’, at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday.
Zoe’s strapless blue Prada dress was an intriguing design and a study in asymmetry, featuring a balloon skirt made up of layered panels.
While the design was certainly eye-catching, it left me divided. The artistry of the asymmetrical panels creates intrigue, but the way the hemline abruptly ends on the right side feels disjointed. I can’t help but wish that side had continued in the same fluid, tulip-like shape as the left. A more consistent asymmetry could have enhanced the overall fluidity of the dress.
A tulip shaped skirt would have been in keeping with the floral accents in Zoe’s hair and the floral details in the backdrop.
That said, this doesn’t mean the look was without merit. The innovative design choices were interesting, and the rich blue hue played beautifully against Zoe’s skin tone. But if I had to choose between this look and her ensemble from the photocall the day before, I would lean toward the latter, which felt more cohesive.
Her look was finished with black satin Prada pumps, a classic choice that balanced the more avant-garde elements of the dress, and TASAKI Chorus Valley earrings and ring.
