When Cardi B took her seat in the front row of the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, my first thought was, “Who is that?” With her light-coloured contact lenses dramatically transforming her look, she was almost unrecognisable.
Dressed in a custom Dsquared2 gown, Cardi’s look was a reimagined version of Look 16 from the Fall 2024 collection. The chiffon and tulle panelled dress was altered to be longer and in a striking white hue, tailored specifically for her. The illusion panels worked their magic, creating a typically daring silhouette. And, in true Cardi fashion, she topped it off with a Mongolian fur coat—a fitting addition for a woman who has never shied away from the spotlight and love drama.
Initially, I wasn’t fully convinced by this look. Cardi’s fashion moments are usually much more inventive, and at first glance, this felt more, dare I say, obvious. However, seeing a video of her arrival at the Brooklyn Navy Yard changed my perspective. The way she carried herself with such confidence transformed the outfit for me. Cardi was channeling an old Hollywood goddess, and suddenly, everything clicked—the fur coat, the wavy hair, the statement Jared Lehr necklace. It all worked together to create a visual story that was glamorous and theatrical.
In the end, it wasn’t just the dress or the accessories that made this look memorable—it was Cardi’s undeniable presence. She has a way of making any outfit, no matter how unconventional, entirely her own. While the ensemble may have felt out of character at first, her confidence sold it, turning a questionable choice into a red carpet moment worth talking about.
