Michelle Yeoh, who plays Madame Morrible in ‘Wicked’, graced the green carpet at the London premiere on Monday night, joining her co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
For those of you who weren’t sold on Michelle’s playful attempt to get into character at the LA premiere, you’ll be pleased to see her ditching the blonde wig for this occasion.
The Malaysian actress opted for a custom Bottega Veneta strapless leather and silk cady dress. At first glance, it might not scream ‘Wicked’, but the subtle shades of green and the unexpected use of leather make it clear that there’s a nod to the story’s iconic Emerald City.
I absolutely adore the silhouette of this dress. It’s sleek, modern, and a testament to Michelle’s ability to balance contemporary design with red carpet elegance. The choice of leather gives the look an edge, while the silk cady adds softness, resulting in a surprisingly harmonious blend of textures.
Accessories played a major role in tying this look together. Mikimoto jewels, including stunning diamond and emerald earrings, elevated the look while perfectly complementing the green tones of her gown, and her trusty Richard Mille timepiece featured a green strap.
This felt like a departure from the more literal ‘Wicked’ nods we’ve seen so far on this press tour, but that’s what I appreciate most about Michelle’s choice. It’s thematic without being obvious, bold without being overdone.
Were you expecting something more theatrical, or do you appreciate this sleek approach as much as I do?
