The Wicked Looks

The Los Angeles premiere was a magical affair, sparking a wave of hype for Jon M. Chu’s musical masterpiece. From Broadway to blockbuster, Wicked has enchanted audiences with some unforgettable stars: Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. And we can’t forget the iconic Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who originated these roles on Broadway. As all these legends reunited on the “Wicked Carpet,” showing off some bewitching, head-turning looks, Wella Professionals was there at every turn to ensure spell-bonding damage repair for their hair. Keep reading to see exactly how Miracle Hair Rescue got involved.

For Idina’s Wicked premiere look, her dress’s architectural shape and design was a big inspiration. Using the open shoulder on one side and predominant volume of the sleeve on the other side, we chose to keep the hair down, voluminous, and swept to one side to help balance it out visually.

The Steps:

  • Shampoo with Wella Professionals ULTIMATE REPAIR Shampoo and condition with Wella Professionals ULTIMATE REPAIR Conditioner.
  • Then on clean and damp hair use Wella Professionals ULTIMATE REPAIR Miracle Hair Rescue treatment for protection against damage and help keep hair shiny and smooth prior to blow drying.
  • After blow drying, push most of the hair to one side, basically working off a side part, and then used a 1 1/4-inch curling iron in small sections to wave out the hair.
  • For more texture, wave each 2-inch section in the opposite direction as the previous. Then use a workable hairspray to increase hold for each curl.
  • Once the entire head is curled, use a texturizer spray to separate and build out the volume of each wave.
  • Then, go back with a round brush and blow dryer and blow dry the face frame away from the face and added more root volume to the crown.
  • With one last swoop with the majority of the hair to one side, spray the hair for a final finish!

The inspiration for Kristin Chenoweth’s hair for the Wicked Premiere was to keep it simple, sleek, and shiny. Nothing too fussy or princess-like to enhance her Pamela Roland gold metal mini dress, which was very ornate. By keeping things simple the entire look was modern and beautiful and makes great inspiration for holiday or a New Year hairstyle.

For Michelle’s style they decided on a more exaggerated look – keeping it short, modern and voluminous – to fit with the campiness that Wicked is.
