On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in collaboration with Chanel, hosted the Academy Women’s Luncheon in Los Angeles. This inspiring event brought together women from across the filmmaking community to celebrate the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, a program dedicated to supporting emerging women filmmakers. As expected, the luncheon was a showcase of several attendees donning Chanel. Here’s a breakdown of the standout styles:
Tweed, but make it fresh
Selena Gomez continued her stylish streak from the ‘Emilia Pérez’ press tour, opting for a Chanel Spring 2025 black and white cotton tweed skirt and blouson. The white accents lent a youthful touch, offsetting any risk of the ensemble feeling too mature. While the platform shoes weren’t my favourite, they did contribute to the modernity of the look.
Fantasy tweed, reimagined
Known for her love of pink, Ariana Grande will surprise many by skipping the colour altogether. Instead, she wore a Chanel Spring 2025 white, blue, and black glitter fantasy tweed top styled as a dress. Chanel Fine Jewelry, including Coco Crush earrings, added sparkle to the outfit. While it was a polished choice for the occasion, it left me wondering why she bypassed Chanel’s many pink options. Perhaps she is feeling fatigued herself.
Tweedy trouble
Dree Hemingway’s Chanel tweed dress was appropriate for the luncheon but lacked her usual je ne sais quoi. And it’s not just the dress, the styling fell flat, particularly the shoes.
One-and-Done Denim
Denim jumpsuits are notoriously tricky to pull off, but Eve Hewson made an admirable attempt with her Chanel Resort 2024 one-piece. Her styling efforts were noteworthy, even if the overall look didn’t really capture my attention.
Smart separates
Gal Gadot’s Chanel Fall 2024 ensemble featured black and burgundy calfskin pants, a white cotton top, and a black wool coat. While the outfit exuded understated sophistication, the addition of glasses felt out of place and detracted from the overall impact.
Boots that bring balance
In a Chanel Spring 2025 white cotton dress and blouson, Havana Rose Liu stood out for pairing her feminine outfit with edgy black boots. While the boots might not be to everyone’s taste, I appreciated the contrast they provided, enhancing her look with a bold touch.
Effortless
Fresh from her trip to Saudi Arabia, Olivia Wilde opted to keep her look simple yet timeless once again. She wore a Chanel ecru and black cashmere sweater with black wool trousers, accessorized with Chanel Fine Jewelry. A bold winged eyeliner elevated her minimalist makeup, offering a touch of drama.
Everything but the layer
I would have been onboard with Pamela Anderson’s Chanel Fall 2024 look if the blouse didn’t have the knit layer.
The thrice-worn wonder
Sarah Paulson wore a Chanel Resort 2025 look, making its third appearance after being spotted on Nathalie Emmanuel and Mariana Di Girolamo twice before. It’s rare to see a Chanel piece recycled this many times, but as you would expect, Sarah brought her own flair to the outfit with her styling.
