Raffey Cassidy attends the "The Brutalist" red carpet during the 81st Venice International Film Festival

The red carpet for ‘The Brutalist’ Venice Film Festival premiere and photocall was filled with stylish moments, but unfortunately, British actress Raffey Cassidy’s fashion choices fell flat. Both of her looks missed the mark for me.

Premiere: Funeral Chic?

For the premiere, Raffey chose a Chanel Spring 2023 Haute Couture dress. This flared, petticoated black silk tulle gown seemed more suited for a sombre occasion than a glamorous film festival. The dark, heavy fabric, combined with the veil, gave off serious funeral vibes, which felt out of place on this red carpet. Despite the intricate embellishments with pleated flounces and silver camellias, the dress failed to capture my interest. It wasn’t flattering or particularly exciting, and the overall effect was more gloomy than glamorous.

To be honest, this is my least favourite look of the entire festival so far. Even the addition of Chanel High Jewelry couldn’t save this ensemble from feeling like a fashion misstep.

Photocall: Minimal Effort

Unfortunately, Raffey’s photocall look didn’t fare much better. She opted for a tan Miu Miu pleated dress paired with brown monk strap shoes. The outfit was underwhelming, to say the least. It lacked the creativity, interest or the intrigue that one expects during a festival like this, giving off an impression of minimal effort. The dress itself was uninspired, and the choice of footwear didn’t do much to elevate the look.

Overall, both of Raffey Cassidy’s outfits for ‘The Brutalist’ were disappointing. While the Venice Film Festival often showcases some of the best red carpet fashion, Raffey’s choices were very underwhelming.
