If the essence of Chanel were to be embodied by a woman, she would no doubt take an elegant form — fierce in spirit and lucid in movement, ever-evolving and never resting. For their FW22/23 pre-collection campaign, Chanel presents a stratospheric visual with Charlotte Casiraghi as the face — sauntering across mysterious landscapes in a clip shot by SMITH. “Charlotte embodies the Chanel allure in a very authentic and natural way, all while remaining true to her own world,” says Virginie Viard, who used Charlotte’s attitude and eclectic personality as a muse for this collection.

Treading the line between dreams and reality, the collection pulses with a fluidity that is difficult to describe. Clashing eclectic flower prints with metallic-threaded tweed, using relaxed hemlines on shirts and trousers and keeping outerwear long and breezy, the collection emanates the same candid demeanour possessed by Charlotte Casiraghi herself. Effortlessly capturing her personality down to the very last detail, Charlotte explains, “Virginie has known me since I was a child. It’s a natural complicity that doesn’t need explanation.”

While the camera pans to scenic views of the wilderness, a well-kept apartment and a pier by the sea, SMITH effortlessly depicts the translatable nature of Chanel’s DNA: a poetic representation of introspection, self-expression and reverie.
