There’s no denying that the bob is the haircut of summer 2022—just ask Aubrey Plaza. But first, some background: From the effortless Botticelli bob to the cool-girl Scandi bob, the cropped cut has been trending all season or it’s low-maintenance and heatwave-friendly style. Celebrities have been debuting bobs left and right, with many opting to use natural-looking extensions to create fullness and body. Plaza is the latest celeb to prove the short style doesn’t have to be high-maintenance—and we’re copying her immediately.

The actor was photographed outside during New York City’s heatwave this week wearing an undone bob with soft waves and side bangs. The neck-grazing cut emphasizes her natural texture and is perfect for keeping cool during a hot summer day and falls in line with the trending Botticelli bob, which is a modern take on loose S-curl renaissance waves.

“This is a perfect summer look to pack in hydration and minimize hot-tool usage,” Sebastian Professional international stylist Anthony Cole told Glamour about the hairstyle. Prep is an easy formula of moisturizing and volumizing products, quick braids, and a smidgen of overnight magic. “The Botticelli bob is perfect for the ‘on-the-go woman’ because you can prepare it at night and get up in the morning, take out the braids, run your hands through and be on your way,” Cole adds.

Recreating the look requires little to no heat styling. Depending on your hair’s thickness, you can create the look with two or three braids (the more braids, the more waves, the more structure). If braids aren’t your forte, Cole suggests a two-strand version. “For a two-strand braid, hold two sections of hair in your hands and twist the strands and wrap them around each other,” he says. In the morning, unravel the braids and gently finger comb through the strands.
