Noted football person and now ex-wife guy Tom Brady has officially given his first interview since his dramatic public split from wife Gisele Bündchen. On his Sirius XM show Let’s Go!, the athlete admitted that problems in his personal life may have impacted his work performance, but that’s true of anyone with a job from time to time, isn’t it?

“I think there’s a lot of professionals in life that go through things that they deal with at work and they deal with at home,” Brady said, adding that the situation is “amicable” and he’s focused now on taking care of his family and being a good football player.

“So, that’s what professionals do. You focus at work when it’s time to work, and then when you come home you focus on the priorities that are at home. All you can do is the best you could do. That’s what I’ll just continue to do as long as I’m working and as long as I’m being a dad,” he said.

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is certainly a very admirable goal, but longstanding rumor has it that it was Brady’s profession causing problems in his marriage more than it was the other way around. In October, TMZ‘s anonymous insiders said that for years, Bündchen had wanted her husband to quit football—but he never committed to retiring from the game. According to TMZ, she’d threatened divorce more than once if he didn’t give it up.

The good news for Tom Brady is, I guess, that now he has more time to focus on quarterbacking.
