Zoë Kravitz is having a few of her iconic tattoos removed. In her revealing GQ cover story, the actor and director spoke about her decision to laser off a few of her more than fifty tattoos, including the star on her middle finger she got when she was 18.

“Just things, I’m like, ‘I don’t need this on my body,’” she explained.

This isn’t the first time Kravitz has spoken about undergoing tattoo removal. Last year, Kravitz told InStyle that she’s lost count of exactly how many tattoos she has. Many of them are peppered across her hands and arms, but even more can be spotted on her neck, back, legs, and feet.

“I think tattoos are a beautiful form of adornment, just like makeup or jewelry. It’s funny because I don’t even know how many I have,” she confessed with a laugh. “I hardly see them anymore because I am so used to them. There are some I like more than others. I have gotten a few removed, but I plan on getting more tattoos. Once you’re into it, it’s hard to stop.”

For years, Dr. Woo has been one of Kravitz’s go-to tattoo artists. Like Ariana Grande and Hailey Bieber—fellow fans of Woo’s work—Kravitz seems to favor small, delicate designs. That should make the removal process quicker and less painful for Zoë than it has been for Pete Davidson, who announced his intent to have all of his tattoos “burned off” in 2020. Of course, that didn’t last long. During his nine-month courtship with Kim Kardashian, Davidson went on to get several new tattoos honoring her and her kids.

During the GQ interview, Kravitz also revealed the backstory on that unforgettable paparazzi photo of her riding behind boyfriend Channing Tatum on his BMX bike. As you may recall, the image became the quintessential meme of summer 2021.
