The Critics’ Choice Association 5th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television ceremony was held at the Fairmont Century Plaza on Monday (December 5) in Los Angeles, California.

Angela Bassett was presented with a Career Achievement Award, and I hope she also collected an award for best dressed of the night too, as she looked radiant wearing a custom Dolce & Gabbana fuchsia sequinned jumpsuit with a pink satin overlay.

Don’t you just love it when a custom look is inch perfect?

It’s one of my greatest joys.  I kind you not.

The big curls matched her big energy as the actress styled her look Dolce & Gabbana accessories which included a crystal mesh box clutch and matching platform satin sandals.

It appears that these draped sashes are trending on the red carpet.

Are they on track to be the new opera gloves?

Quinta Brunson was also an award winner on the night as she picked up the Best Actress Award in Television.

When I saw her in this stunning strapless gown with the luxurious satin draped detail, I was beyond overjoyed because I think this means that her prom gown days are well behind her.

And with awards season gathering pace, this has happened at the right time.

Our prayers have been answered.  This is right behind her Emmys gown for me in terms of being her best looks of the year.

Andra Day

I feel like Andra Day went back to her boho roots wearing this Zuhair Murad Fall 2022 mix printed off-shoulder, billowed sleeve gown.

What’s most refreshing about this look are the warm copper and rust tones which seems a perfect match for her complexion and the mood of the season.

I would’ve loved for her makeup artist to have added one of those colours to the lips or eyes, but this is still a big win for Andra.

When it comes to Thuso Mbedu, who wore a Dior Spring 2023 black silk taffeta dress, I love the dress, but I’m not sold on the Dior boots.

The rest of the styling is charming, I would’ve preferred pumps or sandals with this strapless dress.

Ayo Edebiri
Rosie Assoulin

Ayo Edebiri picked up the Rising Star Award wearing a Rosie Assoulin Fall 2022 white suit.

Wrapped with a scarf, the look was on trend with the makeshift hood.

Zaria continued her love affair with all things Dolce & Gabbana wearing this black silk chiffon gown with boning details.

I love how the dress is sensual without being overtly sexy, but I couldn’t get on board with the makeup.
