Every year the Chinese celebrate the beginning of a new lunar year. In 2023 we welcome the Year of the Rabbit with festivities beginning on the new moon on January 22nd and culminating with the Lantern Festival on February 5th. We always love seeing what luxury brands are doing to celebrate the Chinese New Year; read on to learn more and see some of our holiday favorites.

Chinese festivities last around 15 days, ending on the full moon. The dragon, the tiger, and the colors red and gold are some of the symbols of this holiday. Also known as the Spring Festival, during this celebration, people often gift red envelopes with money in them to shy away the devil.

Each lunar year in the Chinese calendar is named after one of the twelve Chinese zodiacs, animals from last year’s tiger to creatures like the monkey, the pig, the dragon, and the snake. This year we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. Which is filled with symbolism for being an example of mercy, elegance, and beauty. This animal is also seen as the luckiest of the twelve zodiac signs.

Around this time every year, many luxury brands use the opportunity to communicate with the Chinese New Year in mind, the first steps of luxury innovation and design for the new lunar year.
